Where oh where to begin ?

Before

Not quite ready to redo the kitchen in the new house, but cannot live with the mousy brown counter tops, so a counter rescue is in order.

You can do it!  Start with DAICH COATINGS

http://www.daichcoatings.com/spreadstone_countertop_kit.html

Basically a DIY roll on stone textured paint to cover the existing surface of your counter tops. Great coverage and durability. Amazing step by step tutorial that can be done over a weekend!

Now for that backsplash, I could not leave that brown laminate, and I had to remove it anyway when I did the counters. I thought a glass mosaic would make it a bit more zippy.

You can do it!  Start with typically a 12×12 sheet, of glass tile backed with mesh. You need a trowel, some thinset and unsanded grout. Paste them to the wall with the thinset, cutting as necessary, and once set, use the grout to fill in the gaps. Wipe excess with a damp sponge.

Ahhhhhh…..much better.

AfterThe finale, a touch of yellow happiness. I believe cooking can now resume.

Onward

2013 was a big year.

I found a new home as the Director of Interior Design for Mark P. Finlay Interiors in Southport CT.

As well as a permanent residence for my family.I found both needed lots of love, and I decided I had lots to give !

One Bigger Happy Family

In the winter of 2010, we moved from my homeland of Florida to be close to John’s family in Westport, CT.

I moved with my son Slade, 6 at the time, my husband John, and my Mom and Dad.

Like I said before, my parents said there would be no way we were going to take their only grandson away!

We moved into a small rental home and hunkered down for the worst winter the northeast had seen in a decade.

I shut my eyes tightly and woke up in the middle of a giant snowdrift and without the proper shoes to boot, no pun intended.

The family continues…my Mom & Dad

These two cute people are my Mom and Dad, AKA Gooch and Gramma.

They have been married for over 50 years.

These two retired to take care of Slade and they have never been far from him. They currently live with us in our home in Westport, CT

Mi Familia

My family story goes like this…

I met John when he had two cute little girls, 2 year old Natalie and 7 year old Samantha. At the time I was teaching a religious ed class and John had the kids attend. Samantha asked out loud if I had  a boyfriend, and if I thought her dad was cute. How could I resist? John and I married in 1999, and after a few years we had “The Prince”, Slade.

Today, the kids are 13, 23 & 28
